EBRAINS Meets with R&I Community at the Brain Innovation Days 2024

Lyuba Zehl

The Brain Innovation Days 2024 took place at The EGG in Brussels, Belgium. EBRAINS was present at the event with a booth and scientific posters, and engaged with key players in the brain research and innovation field — investors, researchers, clinicians, patient representatives, policymakers and more.

On the first day of the event, EBRAINS Data and Knowledge Engineer and Coordinator Lyuba Zehl presented a 30-second pitch of the EBRAINS Research Infrastructure on stage as part of the Pitch Competition. The competition served as an opportunity to showcase great examples of brain innovation in Europe that can create positive impact — innovations and solutions that will improve the quality of life of people with brain disorders (neurological and mental alike) and support clinicians, researchers, patients and caregivers, industry, and society as a whole.

Two EBRAINS posters were presented in the Innovation Hall. Zehl presented her poster 'EBRAINS - A Holistic Research Infrastructure for FAIR Brain Science'. Visitors asked her about how to register for EBRAINS, how the research infrastructure handles health data, and how they could connect their own platforms.

The second poster in the Innovation Hall was ‘Virtual Brain Twin for Personalised Treatment of Psychiatric Disorders’ by Martin Breyton from Aix-Marseille University. The poster gave a detailed overview of the EBRAINS-coordinated Virtual Brain Twin project, which aims to create and test a digital platform for treating psychosis in schizophrenia patients, in particular providing guidance in medication. The central part is the digital twin of the patient’s brain, which is created using the patient’s own brain imaging data, complex modelling, and powerful computers, and offers new neurological services through advanced technology.

Guillermo Velasco, Leader of the Spanish Node of EBRAINS, presented the poster ‘Innovation in EBRAINS’ at the EBRAINS booth. Visitors expressed an interest in using the Open Science Tools and Services on EBRAINS, as well as how they could integrate their data in the research infrastructure.

The Brain Innovation Days 2024 was a great opportunity for EBRAINS to interact with the research and innovation community. We are looking forward to seeing you at the next edition of the Brain Innovation Days!
